Hopes+Dreams was a touring exhibition of work by members of Letter Exchange on the theme of manifestos.

There are two thoughts behind my piece entitled Context is Everything. Firstly, we all have favourite aphorisms that we collect, building them into a sort of personal ‘manifesto’ to help us articulate our view of the world. Secondly, if you appropriate a short phrase from any source and take it out of context, you can manipulate its apparent meaning: the extremist can sound rational; the moderate can sound authoritarian; and the imaginative can sound downright dangerous!

The work consists of eighteen extracts from famous (and infamous) sources presented in that most mundane of media the fridge magnet.
